Yeah, this is one of those bleak and miserable set films, the atmospehere & score alone is enough to really start to tweak you out. The mutant baby is a fucked up addition to the film as well, and made the movie that much more bizarre.. I understand it was titled American Nightmares before Troma got a hold of it.

I'm not sure on that Al...lots of titles were changed way back when when they showed in different indie theaters...Sometimes these theaters would cut the prints the way they saw fit...

Troma just distributed it on DVD...that is all of their involvement...They probably chose the name it went by most...

But yeah, this is a cool flick...depressing and bleak...And I think it gets overlooked a lot because Troma distributes it...

I saw this years ago on VHS, and thought it was brilliant. The low budget and amateurish acting make come off as cheesy, but the subject matter couldn't be any more grim.

Yeah, Troma distributed, but certainly not in line with Troma's typical output. I can vouch that Troma didn't retitle the film, as the original VHS release from Prism had the same title. It's worth noting that Troma's DVD was the first uncut release of the film, and has commentary with director Buddy Giovinazzo and Jorg Buttgereit.
